Luxurious Bordeaux
As I opened my Twitter page to check on the analytics of yesterday's tweets, I noticed all the suggestions Twitter had in its "Who To Follow" column. The suggestions were for all these luxurious hotels in Paris... This reminded me of the French cities I've visited in the past, one of which was Luxurious Bordeaux. I've indulged Paris just like the next person; however, I've also enjoyed myself in other cities as well; Bordeaux being one of them.
Reaching Bordeaux
Reaching Bordeaux was incredibly easy... I was in London last year for business, when I decided to take a week off and jump the train to Bordeaux. Yes, as of July 2017 you can reach Bordeaux from London via rail in less than six hours. This is made possible through the 188 miles stretch of rail between Tours and Bordeaux. The views were spectacular and sitting in First Class made all the difference in the world! My bag was nearby as opposed to being in the luggage car and food and drinks were brought to my seat.
About Bordeaux
Here's everything you'll ever need to know about Bordeaux:
- Bordeaux's city center is unmatched in all of Europe! Bordeaux most definitely isn't what it used to be... Bordeaux has had a face-lift and if like me you've been to the capital of wine more than ten years ago, like me, you'll notice the change like a slap in the face.
- The capital of wine has a world-famous wine museum, "Cité du Vin wine museum". The wine shop holds over 800 bottles of wine, 200 of which are from France and over 600 from other countries. Similar to The Hall of Presidents at Disney World, the museum has a facility with several large screens that showcases a helicopter ride over different vineyards around the world.
- Food is as amazing as the wine in Bordeaux... World-Renowned Chef Joel Robuchon who has about a dozen restaurants around the world including La Grande Maison in Bordeaux, opened the restaurant as part of the beautiful Pape Clement Chateau, which receives guests. The Intercontinental Bordeaux, which is where I stayed, presented the 2 Michelin-Star Le Pressoir dâ??Argent, which is run by Gordon Ramsey.
- The art scene in Bordeaux is alive and kicking... If you're a fan of the old masters, then don't look any further than The Musée des Beaux Arts. If you're more into the contemporary stuff, don't fret as you can enjoy your time at the CAPC Museum of Contemporary Art.
- Shopping is also a pastime in Bordeaux... If you're a shopper, then there are three boulevards to keep in mind: Allées de Tourny, Cours Clemenceau, and Cours de lâ??Intendance. If you're not into big brands and price tags, then you'll love the St. Pierre District!
- Who wouldn't like to join in on a wine tour? I was given the best advice and that was, don't spend good money on the ride, just the wine... That said, visit Bordeaux's Tourist Office and purchase your ticket. You could choose among some of the best known vineyards: Arcachon, Medoc, and St. Emilion.
My trip to Bordeaux was pure luxury from start to finish, but without the Paris price. Luxury is Luxury; however, every zip code has its own price tag. If you're ever interested in taking a trip to France and visiting Bordeaux, click HERE.
